The swan-filled Avon River was named after the River Avon in England (Stratford-Upon-Avon) and flows slowly through the city with plenty of riverbank lawns and benches to wile away an afternoon. The Avon River southwest, entering the Thames River near St. Marys.

The river flows into Lake Victoria, a seasonal reservoir created by the Thomas Orr Dam. The lake is the summer home to canoes. paddle boats and dragon boats. Private docks dot the North shore and boat rentals can be found near the dam.
